Saudi Prince of Jazan Province, Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser, appealed to the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and other concerned parties in letter calling for a ban on girls from performing in shows in provincial events.

He wrote on the need to monitor the troupes and their level of formality and proposed a series of measures to regulate their activities. One is to allow them to present their shows only after receiving the approval of the region’s principality and prior to their participation in entertaining events that require an invitation. The letter also called for organizers to send a detailed itinerary of the show and that no female dancer should be allowed in the performance.

Informed sources told Al Watan that a commission of government bodies was established to decide on defining an age on girls entering such troupes and that it banned girls older than eight years old from performing in the shows.

This decision emerged after a reported increase in the number of girls entertaining troupes in Jazan and many of its cities.

Famous entertaining troupes have lately been banned from performing while troupes’ owners were compelled to pledge that they would not take girls abroad to participate in dance competitions, reported other sources.
