A 58-year old man from Lansing, Michigan was arrested early Saturday in connection with several swastikas that have been found spray-painted on community grounds in recent weeks.

Undercover detectives reportedly caught a suspect using black paint spray to vandalize a sign at Old Town Temple, said Lansing police Capt. Daryl Green, according to Lansing State Journal.

The detectives arrested the man without incident, police said.

Green said police are investigating the incidents as a hate crime, but final charges will decided by county prosecutors. He added there have been at least six swastikas reported in the area since May 15.

Green said the department, the city of Lansing and the Old Town businesses took the vandalism seriously and worked together.

“We couldn’t have done this without the help of the Old Town businesses,” he said, according to the local news site.

Green said he expects the suspect to be arraigned on Tuesday.
