At least eight people were killed in a pair of shootings in Lincoln County, Mississippi late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, including a law enforcement officer.

The incident began in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi Saturday night when police responded to a report that a man had refused to leave a property on Lee Drive.

The suspect, 35-year old Willie Cory Godbolt, opened fire when police approached him, killing six, including a sheriff’s deputy.

He then allegedly took a 16-year old hostage, MS News Now reports, before releasing the teen and proceeding to a residence on Coopertown Road. Two more people were shot and killed on Coopertown Road.

Authorities tracked down and captured Godbolt at approximately 7:00 a.m. local time Sunday morning after he fled the scene of the second shooting.

Godbolt has a long history of violent crime including armed robbery, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and simple assault.
