King's College (KCL) of London university hosted the launch of Tarek Heggy's 26th book
On 19th January, 2010, King’s College (KCL) of London university hosted the launch of Tarek Heggy’s 26th book "The Arab Cocoon" (that could be ordered via amazon.com) and his lecture about the Arabs’ problematic with modernity and progress.
Tarek Heggy tackled in his lecture "Why" & "What"! "Why the human scientific achievements of the 19th & 20th centuries were all realized OUTSIDE THE ARAB SOCIETIES ? Why all the products that the Arab societies utilize (including the weapons of organizations such as
Hizbullah, hamas & al Qaeda) are (100%) innovated outside the Arab societies. In his lecture, Tarek Heggy related this "isolation" from "modernity & progress" to :
(1) The religious mentality that prevailed in the Arabic speaking societies. A mentality that was founded by Wahhabism & Muslim Brotherhood and hugely funded by the largest Petro- Dollars Kingdom.
(2) The most outdated, anti-humanity, anti-others & anti-modernity Arab education systems that are entirely disconnected from the values of modernity & progress (plurality, otherness, relativity of human views, criticism/critical mind, liberal education, universality of
science & knowledge, human & women rights, innovation, tolerance, modern
management …. etc.).
(3) the hysteric fear from modernity and cross-cultural integration (orchestrated by the religious, educational & autocratic-governments dominated press & media). Then, the second half of the lecture focused on "What needs to be done to help the Arab societies
to join the human march of progress & modernity (with special emphasis on
the role of modern liberal education).
